Why Charter?
Flexibility and independence are two of the main reasons for spending your annual leave on a sailing charter vacation. You choose your destination, and you decide when you step onto terra firma. You avoid the crowds when you want to be alone, or join them when you feel like it. Viewing the landscape from your private yacht will be your Kodak picture memory for life! You can set your own pace, choose your desired destination and take full control of your itinerary and eliminate queuing at busy airports.

The key word to yacht chartering is FREEDOM. You are the captain of your decisions. So, you decide when to sail, when to eat and when to throw anchor at hidden beaches or exotic ports. But should the notion for ‘living it up’ take hold of you, you can join the exciting nightlife in a bustling town or enjoy a meal in a popular haunt.

When hoisting your main sail and turning the yacht into the wind, you set yourself to sail the most exquisite coastlines. Glistening sapphire waters and pristine white beaches will be the order of the day. Dancing dolphins will be your entertainment hosts. You can snorkel when you want to cool down or scuba dive into the deep for a peep at vivid colored marine life. Enjoy national parks at different destinations. Rub shoulders with local people and stuff your shopping bag with souvenir trophies. You will never be the same once you have experienced a ‘Royalty Yachts’ vacation and tasted the good life.

The most popular yacht charter destinations include the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Florida Keys, the Bahamas and the Whitsunday Islands in Australia. Royalty Yachts cover all these and in addition, has access to all the best charter boats in exotic locations such as the South Pacific, the Seychelles and Thailand. Can you feel the freedom?

In one respect chartering is the same as all other vacations. They both take a certain amount of planning and preparation to make sure you have the best trip. You also have to pack your bags for either one. But charter vacation will be all the better for being customized specifically for you.

On board a luxury Royalty Yacht, you will find that there is no better way to experience a taste of freedom, elegance and style. You will also discover that a crewed luxury yacht charter may end up costing no more than an exclusive hotel or cruise ship. However, a fundamental difference is that you have ultimate privacy, control and as mentioned before – freedom! Something you’d never find on a cruise ship or in a hotel.

Your luxury yacht will be the royal domain for you and your friends, and the crew will attend to all your needs. You’ll get service that is professional, personalized and friendly. Your own personal chef onboard will provide you with the best in cuisine, prepared to your liking, and you can dine whenever you want without even making a reservation. Take charge of your vacation and join the growing numbers who sail in absolute luxury when and where they choose to.

You will also find another range of fun choices on board a luxury yacht. The water ‘toys’! Kayaks, windsurfers, water-skis, jet skis and diving equipment to name a few. These are often available for your entertainment. Incredible but true, the larger super yachts may even accommodate a helicopter pad, submarine bay, a gym or a cinema. Every charter boat has its own speed boat (tender) which can take guests water skiing, and take passengers ashore during the day, to the beach, or at night to enjoy a meal or other nightlife.

How does it work?

Usually a yacht is offered for charter (hire, rent, lease) by the owner, during periods when they don’t make use of the yacht themselves. It is in their interests to use the best captain possible to take care of their valuable asset. More often than not a yacht owner will also make use of a managing agent (central agent) to take care of bookings and the timetable. Although they may have special offers from time to time there will be a fixed price for the yacht and a specific contract. A network of charter brokers will market the yacht on behalf of the owner, taking information provided by the owner or the managing agent to find a client (charterer) to charter the yacht.

Finding the best yacht charter to suit your needs
Once you’ve made the decision to charter a yacht, let us at Royalty Yachts assist you in the process to make it easy and enjoyable. We endeavour in satisfying clients with diverse needs and requirements, so we are sure we can help by creating your dream private customized charter.

We specialise in matching the most appropriate yacht and crew with our client’s needs. In order to do this, we will need some basic information from you.

1. What, where, when?
Do you need a motor yacht or a sailing yacht?
A motor yacht can offer speed, plus space and luxury. Sailing offers its own thrills, anticipation and excitement.

What is your budget?
The following calculations need to be part of your budget:
The basic charter fee, meals on board, beverages and gratuities.
Travelling to and from your ports of embarkation and disembarkation will be additional costs.

Where would you like to cruise?
Although many clients have very specific ideas of where they would like to travel it is not always possible due to various reasons. We can help you narrow down your alternatives by providing you with suggested destinations and itineraries. Tell us your preliminary thoughts and we will help you finalize your cruise itinerary once you have selected your yacht.

How many in your party?
We need to know how many people will be in your party as well as their interests. We can then determine which yacht would be suitable for you. Your party’s interests and ages are important to help us allocate you a yacht with the right equipment such as diving gear, fishing tackle and water toys.

When is your vacation?
If you’re looking for a popular destination then you would be well advised to book early. Typically, bookings are made in weekly chunks, although start and end dates can be flexible. If you give us tentative dates, we will provide you with a list of the most suitable yachts in your preferred destination.

2. Narrowing the field
Given the above information, Royal Yachts can find you the most appropriate yacht for your charter from our fleet of yachts across the world to fit your requirements, with a special recommendation suited to your destinations, dates, party size and budget.

3. Reservation
Charter Agreement:
When you are ready to make your yacht reservation we ask you to review the Charter Agreement and sign it. We will talk you through it to make sure you understand it and are satisfied with the terms therein.

Deposits and Final Payment:
Having reviewed and signed the agreement we will require a deposit. If the charter date is more than six months from the date of signing a deposit of 25% is required. If the charter date is less than six months from the date of signing a 50% deposit will be required.
Final payment and the Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) for non-inclusive charters must be made one month from the charter date. For non-inclusive charters the captain will keep a detailed record of all food and beverage expenses that will be checked against advanced funding and the balance settled at the end of the charter.

Each charter is customized including food and beverages. To do this we will send you a detailed questionnaire to find out your food and drink preferences, together with dietary and medical requirements. It’s vital that the crew of the yacht receives this information before the charter begins to enable them to cater for your every wish.

The Charter Agreement form contains details of the terms for a charter cancellation. There is an option for charter cancellation insurance and we will discuss this with you before your yacht reservation.

Your captain’s responsibilities:
Your captain is keen to make your charter an adventure of a lifetime! He is responsible for the safety of the yacht and all on board. When it comes to safety issues he makes the final decision.

Gratuities are at your discretion but it is customary to tip the captain and the crew at the end of a charter. The range of a tip is usually from 5 to 15 per cent of the base charter fee depending upon the level of service you believe you have received.

Best Yachting Destinations of the World:

Popular Destinations
The warmth and consistent trade wind breeze, coupled with the beautiful beaches and scenery make the Caribbean a popular sailing location. Indeed, many charter sailing yachts are either based in the Caribbean or sail there during the winter months. The area also plays host to famous social yacht races such as the St Barts Bucket Regatta and the Antigua SuperYacht Cup. The Caribbean offers famous cruising locations in the Leeward and Windward Islands, as well as the Virgin Islands, St Marten, Anguilla, St Barts,

Antigua and the Grenadines.
Another popular destination for sailing yacht vacations during the summer months is the Mediterranean Sea. Here, there is a huge selection of yachts available, larger than any other area worldwide. As well as every type of sailing yacht imaginable, the Western Mediterranean can give you locations such as the South of France (Riviera), Sardinia and Italy, each offering beautiful scenery, culture and food. Mediterranean wind is typically not as consistent and settled as provided by the Caribbean trade winds, but the beauty and cultural experiences of the Western ‘Med’ more than make up for reduced time under sail.
The other end of the Mediterranean, the Eastern ‘Med’, tends to have more wind for sailing yachts. The area includes Croatia, Greece and Turkey; this part of the Mediterranean is more relaxed, but there are some amazing sights and experiences to be found, with literally thousands of islands to sail around.

Further afield, other sailing vacation locations include the Bahamas, New England, the Pacific North West, the South Pacific, the Seychelles and Maldives, as well as South East Asia, and Australasia. Each one can offer the luxury yacht vacationer something unique from a landscape point of view and also weather conditions.

Cote d’Azur
One of the most exclusive holiday locations in the world, the Cote d’Azur is also know as the French Riviera. Famous resorts such as St Tropez and Cannes are popular with the rich, famous and those wishing to sample the luxurious lifestyle, and the Cote d’Azur also offers the finer things in life. You can dock at Monaco and take a taste of the life for yourself.

Balearic Islands
Ibiza is probably the most well-known island in the area, but the rest of the Balearics are Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera, between them boasting some of the most attractive and secluded beaches in the Mediterranean, making them ideal destinations for yacht cruisers looking for peace and relaxation on European coasts. In addition there are a variety of water sports, luxury hotels, busy bars and restaurants, and a vibrant nightlife reachable from the harbours.

The Adriatic
The coastline of Croatia in the Mediterranean across the Adriatic from eastern Italy has few peers, with its 1,800 islands and many reefs and rocky coves; it’s a sailor’s paradise! Add to that many of the finest examples of Roman architecture to be found and you have a stunning Dalmation coast to explore. When you have docked the seaside resort towns of Dubrovnik and Split will keep you occupied, as will Porec, with its stores, boutiques and winding streets, plus, of course, the ever-popular bars and restaurants.

The Caribbean
Imagine white sandy beaches and crystal clear blue seas, blessed with sun all year round, and you’re imagining the Caribbean. It’s a popular spot for tourists and holidaymakers, with hundreds of stunning destinations to suit all budgets and lifestyles. When travelling to the region by yacht, make sure you stop off at some of the many islands, including Antigua, Barbados and the Bahamas.

The region of Phuket – also known as the ‘Pearl of the South’ – in Thailand is in Andaman Sea in the Indian Ocean. It consists of coves and bays and is famed for its tasty seafood and picturesque beaches. Yachting enthusiasts love Phuket, which is popularly considered to be the prime yachting destination in Asia, and it is host to the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta – the largest sailing event in Asia, attended by hundreds of visitors from all around the world. It is also pertinent to note that there are a number of other water-based activities in the Phuket area, such as speed boating, deep sea fishing, surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving.

French and Italian Riviera
Stroll down the narrow alleyways of Eze with their delightful cobblestones and picturesque Provençal shops, and then have dinner at the Château de la Chèvre d’Or with its views of the Mediterranean. The Côte d’Azur is a marvellous destination for a cruise.
The large number of ports means that the travelling time between stops enables a relaxing itinerary to be constructed. If you head east to the Italian coast, the long crossing from Monaco to Portofino or San Remo can be made overnight. You can discover some local secrets such as the antique and flower markets on the Cours Saleya in Nice, or the Provençal food market of Forville in Cannes. Or what about the unspoilt Porquerolles Islands and their Marine Reserve or the five villages of the Unesco world heritage site of the Cinque Terre: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza (with its excellent local wine) and Monterosso.

Or you might like just to lie back and luxuriate in the sun, with your yacht anchored off one of the Caps or a beach club at St Tropez. Royalty Yachts can book you a table at a top restaurant on the coast. It could be the Oasis in Cannes; the LeMoulin de Mougins; Alain Ducasse’s Louis XV at the Hotel de Paris; or La Terrazza at Hotel Splendido in Portofino.

Kvarner Gulf, Istria, Croatia
If you start your cruise from Venice, then don’t be in too much of a hurry, because you don’t want to miss the Istrian Peninsula as you cruise down to Dubrovnik and the Dalmation Coast. The Kvarner Gulf sits in between the eastern flank of the Peninsula and the mainland of Croatia, and in here are a number of interesting islands, including Cres, Krk, Rab and Losinj – all hosts to lively and colourful medieval towns, working fishing villages and private coves. Rab is an alluring pine-clad island, with a picturesque old town and many secluded lagoons and bays.
