Port des Minimes marina in La Rochelle is a huge marina with modern facilities and good shelter. Of the 3,300 berths on 48 piers, 300 are reserved for visitors. The marina has a boatyard that can offer most services, 3 travel lifts (max 50T), 1 x 30T cranes and 2 x 2.5 T cranes.
La Rochelle is the capital of the Charente-Maritime department and has maintained its past architecture and charm making it one of the most picturesque and historically rich cities on the Atlantic coast. This helped develop a strong tourism industry and one of the cities main features is the “Vieux Port” (“Old Harbour”), which is at the heart of the city, picturesque and lined with seafood restaurants and bars. There is a ferry taxi to the Old Port plus Bicycle and bus connections. other attractions is a very large aquarium, and a small botanical garden (the Jardin des plantes de La Rochelle)
The city has great shopping and plenty of supermarkets, there are also local markets and stores selling regional products such as Cognac,honey, cheese and fish.
The channel is dredged to 0.5 metres below chart datum. (note – dredging operations are underway for the new extension to the Marina).
The entrance is wide and straightfordward and once inside surpringly for a marina with so many berths there is good room to manouver.
Between now and the end of 2013 a project is in operation to extend the marina and create a further 1,200 berths which includes a large dredging operation and the build of a new breakwater.
