Freeport is a city and free trade zone on the island of Grand Bahama which is located approximately 100 miles east-northeast of Fort Lauderdale and Florida and it is a district of the Bahamas.

The Grand Bahama Port Authority operates the free trade zone, under special powers conferred by the government under the Hawksbill Creek Agreement, which was recently extended until August 2054.

Grand Bahama Island is the second most popular tourist destination in the Bahamas. There you will find long stretches of deserted clean-white beaches, inviting hotels, one major casino, night-time entertainment and world-class scuba diving facilities.  It also has land and sea sports.

Freeport is strategically located just 65 miles off the coast of Palm Beach and on the major shipping routes. A growing number of international companies use Freeport as its site for business.

Like New Providence, the larger Grand Bahama also has miles of pearly white beaches and luxurious hotels. Unlike Nassau, the less populated outskirts of Grand Bahama supply more serene and tranquil surroundings.

Freeport enjoys a subtropical climate with mild winters. The winters are usually cold and dry, while the summers are usually hot and wet.

Much of the tourist industry is centered on the seaside suburb of Lucaya. Most hotels on the island are located along the southern shore facing the Northwest Providence Channel.

Freeport on Grand Bahama Island is ideal for your yacht charter vacation. The Freeport International Airport is easily accessed from major US and European cities.

Most charter destinations in the Bahamas can be included in a vacation that can begin in the Freeport area. Nassau, Abaco, Eleuthera, and the Exuma Cays are within close range.

While chartering a yacht, you can relax and be pampered by the crew aboard your charter yacht . You can also try out the charter yacht water toys.

For those into nature, Grand Bahama is also home to one of the oldest underwater cave systems in the world, situated at the Lucayan National Park.

Whether you are looking for modern luxury or want to get away from civilization, Grand Bahama offers the best of both worlds.

The Freeport International Airport has been recently refurbished and has opened the door even wider to visitors from all over the world.
